This isn't a "Week in the Life" thing like everyone else has been doing. However, we had a spontaneous cookout tonight. Mainly steaks:

How spontaneous is spontaneous? People arrived at 7PM. I came up with idea at 11:00AM and spent the early afternoon running around getting foodstuffs and then doing prep work.

Yeah, sometimes I'm insane. Really, I just wanted to share this pic.

that'd be a midday snack for RepliCarter, I imagine.

I hope you enjoyed the meal.

Hah! Probably!

We did. The best thing about cooking for large groups of people is that by a certain point, it really becomes cheap.

Oh, wow, now I'm really hungry, but I have no steak at home. I wonder if Outback is still open. It's the nearest steakhouse.

Yeah, that's the bad thing about posting food pr0n: it really does tend to make you hungry.

(I'm lucky; there's a butcher about 10 minutes walk away that has meat that works for a college student's budget, especially if we all pool our money for stuff like this.)

I have a tendency to do things like this. :) I just grew up learning how to operate in a kitchen.

Okay, see, you like Sam and Elizabeth and you like to cook! (I spent 10 minutes mulling over different brands of balsamic vinegar at the store today, because I really am that much of a dork.)

Did your parents run a restaurant, or did they just teach you how to cook as you grew up? I'm of the latter variety, but my maternal grandmother ran a diner, not to mention had an ungodly number of kids, so my mom learned her way around a kitchen early and passed that on to me.

But at 10 p.m.? I'm all about the restaurant food instead. :)

What can I say? I have many talents. :) (Hey balsamic vinegar is important!)

My parents just taught me how to cook as I was growing up. They split dinner duty: Mom cooked on weeknights and Dad did weekends. By age ten, I was spending a good portion of my weekend afternoons watching my Dad cook, and I always said he just decided that since there was another set of hands available, he put me to work. And then I learned from both of them, and enough technique to be able to make things up on the fly.

But yeah, sometimes, I'm too darn tired to deal with cooking. Then delivery is my best friend. :)

Wow, that looks fabulous!

Bring it over here, I have a gas grill that would accommodate all that beef (courtesy of the Ex)!

Bet you had a great time!

Hah! Man, I would kill for a real, large grill. That's one thing I really miss about my parents' place. I did this on one of those little charcoal grills. Talk about having to cook in shifts.

We did! It's a lot of fun. And we roasted marshmallows over the coals. :)
