Saw Iron Man (finally).

-A few instances of "Science/engineering doesn't work like that!" and "good god, your fabrication times are what?".

-Even more instances of "I want that", which balance it out, though. Like Stark's awesome 3D modeling setup for rapid prototyping. When I get to 3D model, I use Solidworks on a regular computer and maybe get to rapid prototype with a 3D printer. He has the holographic models with "tactile" feedback. DO WANT.

-Another nitpick: "At age [foo], Tony Stark graduated summa cum laude from MIT." Um, that's kind of impressive, considering the fact that MIT does not give out Latin honors. It's not a widely-known fact (in terms of pop culture especially), and not many people would catch that inaccuracy, but it made me go "waitaminute".

-On a vaguely related note: "Spot the Brass Rat" is a fun game to play.

-Did Col. Rhodes have the right insignia on his lapels? I could have sworn he had oak leaves, but he was officially known as "Colonel", not "Lt. Colonel". (Damn you, Stargate, for making me notice these things. Okay, okay, I'll blame AHI too.)

-S.H.I.E.L.D. When they kept doing the non-acronym form, I found myself trying to figure out what the acronym would be (then promptly forgetting when something blew up). I bit my hand when they said "Call us SHIELD". Oh, SWORD and SHIELD. (yes, I know the Guild got those from the comics, but it amused me still)

-Overall? Excellent movie. I want all of Tony Stark's toys. Pepper Potts was as slick as can possibly be, and only got caught because the silly OS has a window pop up for when downloads are complete.

I can probably expand on other things, but this is a quick-and-dirty commentary.

Yeah, I was wondering if I was a little harsh on the MIT nitpick. Because, to some people, Latin honors are kind of ubiquitous. (I know my mom's college had them) And MIT is kind of "weird" in that it doesn't have them. There's no kind of honors or even valadictorian. Either you graduate from MIT or you don't. (Which is kind of great because it's so freaking insane there already that you don't need that kind of extra competition.)

YES. YAY MOVIE!

Naw, I'm all about being harsh since fact-checking is not all that hard.

Yeah. We're not quite there but we're close. I think something like above a 3.7 is highest honors and above a 3.3 is high honors and everything else is "OMG you survived congratulations" but the place it's really mentioned is by an asterisk by your name in the graduation program (I can't remember if my diploma says honors...it might).

Because, yeah, graduating is a huge accomplishment. Luckily my college wasn't really competitive.

Still. YAY MOVIE

Yeah, life is hard enough there without needing the cutthroat feeling. Hell, they encourage collaboration on homework, as long as you turn in your own work. Graduating and getting into grad school/getting a job/etc is seen as its own accomplishment.

Hee, yeah about the fact-checking. And it's such a little thing that only MIT people (or affiliates) would notice it, but the Brass Rat is kind of prominently seen that one would think they'd have gotten that part right. (I'd have to check, but it might be on backwards in one scene. And yes, the orientation of the ring is actually important.)

Then again, they did do so much right and awesome. :)
