ultranos: ashley from Trace Memory (white-haired girl) sleeping (sleepy)
Seeing as I'm home sick today (with what I think might be mild food poisoning or might be something more hilarious), I'm going to need some form of mild entertainment that won't take much effort.

(Also, having a game developer respond to you on Twitter after you compliment his game is really kind of surreal.)

Anyway, snatched from...multiple people on my flist at this point. I think I can blame at least [livejournal.com profile] havocthecat, [livejournal.com profile] beanpot, and [personal profile] aurora_novarum at this point.

Ask me about any character, and I will pick one of the following and tell you:

(a) Three facts about them from my personal fanon.
(b) A reason he/she is amazing.
(c) Five things that I'd like to see happen to them.
(d) Five people that I can't/can ship that character with and why.

If you happen to know my original characters (or tabletop characters), yes, those are also valid for this.

Katara.

(b) A reason he/she is amazing.

Because the ability to herd cats like that at age 14 isn't reason enough? :) Seriously, she manages to be Team Mom for a group of highly-opinionated and, quite frankly, dangerous kids. All of whom have a slightly-questionable track record with parents (her and Sokka win that contest by a mile). But in other stories where "Team Mom" might preclude any "kick ass and take names" moments, well, Katara's always been able to give as good as she gets, and then some. Practically self-taught waterbending master? Why isn't she amazing? :)

Can I give you Alex from "Taming Fenrir" AND RepliCarter, because I'm predictable?

I had this funny feeling you'd ask for Alex. :)

(a) Three facts about them from my personal fanon. Or canon, in this case.

1. Alexander has a really, really strong "pack mentality". Her mother and grandfather knew this, but didn't really realize the extent to which this is the case until she was roughly 18 and had shown zero interest in the opposite sex. Or same sex. And then proceeded to get hilariously tongue-tied around the Emperor's kids who were around the same age, because they are "pack" and she could only ever be attracted to them.

This caused a lot of face-palming between Natalia (mom), Mikael (grandfather), and Emperor Lei.

2. Due to the fact that the Skadi genes are X-linked traits on the Kalmikov line, and actually need the Y chromosome to balance, Alex's DNA was initially highly genetically unstable. She was on a cocktail of drugs from the womb up until she was about 4 years old, and then some amount during puberty. It really wasn't fun.

3. One of the best things about growing up on Enceladus, despite the isolation, was spending nights in the glaciers. She'd sit out with a blanket and watch the light from the stars play across the ice as Saturn loomed overhead. But by far the best times were when one of the geysers went off, sending plumes of water and ice into the atmosphere, and glittered like diamonds as the light from the Milky Way refracted through the frozen water. Alex still goes out to watch it whenever she's home long enough.

And RepliCarter! Because, yes, you are predictable. :)

(a) Three facts about them from my personal fanon.

1. When she went to the Alpha Site, asking SG-1 to destroy her, she meant it. No matter what Fifth had done to her, she was still Sam Carter, and Sam Carter calls no man "master". Oh, she'd give her loyalty, but she'd rather be dead than a slave.

2. When Jack and Teal'c, and even Sam herself, turned on her, she was expecting it. She knew Jack and Teal'c's track record on alternate selves. She had a Plan B for when that happened. It still hurt. She still felt betrayed. And once she felt that she had nothing left and her back was against the wall, only then did the breaks come off.

3. Not quite dead. Probably floating around somewhere in a back-up data drive. Because no way did she not have a contingency plan, and back-ups like crazy, and data is very, very, very hard to destroy once it's been on a network. :)

Damn, *I* was going to ask her about Replicarter. Hmmm....ponders. :-D

Oh, like you couldn't guess Aby was going to call RepliCarter. :)

Thank you. I am actually feeling much better after some sleep and green tea.

Okay....Teal'c! Because Teal'c needs love!

(b) A reason he/she is amazing.

Because he's Teal'c. Isn't that reason enough? :) Because I'm fascinated by characters who have such strong faith, who's faith defines who they are, and who are able to throw it all away and do the right thing when it proves to be false faith.

(And now I'm imagining a fascinating conversation between Teal'c and Meliadoul from Final Fantasy Tactics on the choices one must make if faith proves false.)

(d) Five people that I can't/can ship that character with and why.

Drey'auc: Canon, and I can see it being painful and tender at turns, bound up in duty and honor and tradition. She was strong enough to stand up to him and strong enough that she didn't need him when he was forced to run. I can see her as starting out as a trophy wife, but she was so much more that we never got to saw.

Jack: Can't see it. They're comrades in arms, and probably blood brothers, and have so much in common, but it never reads that way to me.

Cameron: I waffle on this one, really. If they met earlier, I'd probably believe it easier, because they read mentor-student at times, and sometimes I wonder if Jaffa culture has aspects of the samurai mentality of "you can trust a lover to have your back in a fight moreso than almost anyone else". And I can see how Cam might fit that slot so easily. But as it is, I have a hard time seeing it.

Sam: I can ship it. For all it's faults, "Unending" sealed this one for me. Sam's probably everything the way Teal'c was raised says he shouldn't want in a partner, but there's no denying the respect and deep friendship these two have. It's easy, for both of them.

Vala: It's quirky, and hilarious, and you know they're secretly laughing at everyone. I'll ship it if only for the humor value. I'm a sucker for crack pairings.

(c) Five things that I'd like to see happen to them.

1. A chance for him to study Atlantis without a) the world ending, b) Atlantis getting invaded, c) getting kidnapped, d) getting killed, and e) all of the above.

2. A relationship that didn't end with his partner dead or enslaved.

3. For him to wear suits more often. (Yes, I can be shallow.)

4. If he dies again, for him to not Ascend and have to deal with the Ancients and their bullshit. He's tired of it all.

5. Take Cassie Frasier on a tour of old cities if she takes a year off college. Daniel in Rome and Egypt and being able to share that knowledge would be a thing to behold.
