ultranos: kino standing, staring ahead (always read the warning labels)
I've gotten hit over the head two days ago with a crazy idea for a ficathon. So I'm polling for interest.

The idea: multifandom ficathon with prompts based on the Thirty-Six Stratagems. What are the Thirty-Six Stratagems? Well, if you don't want to follow the Wikipedia link, the Thirty-Six Stratagems is a Chinese essay illustrating the uses of stratagems for war, politics, and civil interaction. They are 36 short Chinese proverbs with a sentence or two of further description.

The idea is that authors would interpret one of the 36 in any which way they want, and then write something based on it.

It'd probably be a low-key type thing. But here's a poll to see if there's any interest. If I'm forgetting anything key, or you want to expand on an answer, or you have a really cool idea, tell me in the comments.

Oooh.

I don't know which it should be hosted on, so I went with both.

I invariably pick both just because more options seems to drive people nuttier. *flees*

Hehe. ;)

My participation depends solely on the [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] timeline. (And I'll be writing more Arthurian urban fantasy. More Arthurian lesbians in the world are always awesome.)

Fair enough. I'm not sure when what ficathons already running have things due.

(You are totally allowed to write more Arthurian urban fantasy. In fact, you're encouraged to do so. :P )

I don't know either, which is why I put "both" as an option. :)

Oooooooh. That's just the sort of prompt I like. So long as I'm not deeply involved in other stuff, and my brain is cooperating with the writing of fic, I'm in.

Also, I had to exercise considerable restraint not to choose "Set up a giant tarball hosted on a remote server in the sub-basements and only accessible by crawling through steam tunnels (I hate you all)". *g*

Yeah, I wanted something hugely low-key and low-commitment.

Haa, of course you did. I almost made that question tick boxes. But then I suspected that ~everyone would check that. :D

I could spend HOURS following links on that Wikipedia entry.

I know! I have a fond love of the Han, Warring States, and Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history. As well as the Warring States period of Japanese history. That particular entry is just fascinating.

sign me up!

(will we say what fandom & characters we want, and the 36 are the prompts? that makes sense too)

for the last one, I wanted to vote "Shane! Come back, Shane!"

Yep. You say what fandoms/characters you want (it can totally be crossovers, fusions, and original too), and you'd get one of the 36 as a prompt.

For some strange reason, I've been wanting to randomly yell "STELLAAAA!" for about the last week.

I love this idea. Every single one is a plot bunny in its own right already. Can't wait to see where this is going! :D

Here via [personal profile] havocthecat, and restraining myself from a jumpingly, squeeingly gleeful reaction. I've a friend who knows some classical Chinese and loves the 36 Strategems, so I've been hearing about them for the past 5 years. And they make awesome fic prompts.
