ultranos: kino standing, staring ahead (I'm secretly amused actually)
...I may be in the process of being brow-beaten into going to Dragon*Con.

(It's right after I finish my summer internship and right when all the little frosh first come to campus and I'm too freaking old to deal with all of that. I seem to have developed an extended case of senioritis. This bodes poorly. And if I let it go on, the person doing the brow-beating can be really persistent and persuasive and dammit, I just countered pretty much all the excuses I have.)

Considering I want to build Bahamut, the issue is really "how fast to I want to part with my hard-earned cash?". Then again, I was vaguely considering DEFCON, which would require me to pick up a second laptop (probably an ASUS Eee), or GenCon. I think all of three would be around the same price. (And I don't really need another laptop. Erebus is fine, and once I get Bahamut, I'll have even less reason. Especially since Erebus can already handle SolidWorks and MATLAB.)

There are inherent problems with being a cheap bastard.

You realize posting this here is not going to reduce the brown-beatings, right?

DragonCon, as cons go, is relatively inexpensive (we'll ignore airfare and hotel - but splitting hotel is not bad) and you get a lot for the money and is fun. Much fun.

Oh, I'm perfectly aware that I am pretty much dooming myself with posting this. :)

Yeah, if I can split hotel costs, it's not bad. And I'd be much more likely to go (see "I'm A Cheap Bastard") if I can split that cost, which is why I'm only now seriously thinking about it because this friend brought it up. (I think she wants to go if she knows enough people going.)

I'm just kinda spoiled because the only con I've been to is Anime Boston and for that, I pretty much just have to pay registration.

From what I've heard, it certainly sounds like a lot of fun.

Oh, I understand being a cheap bastard. I don't think the Stargate track will be as star-heavy this year but the con is so worth seeing. It's really indescribable how BIG it is and how great the people-watching is.

I think I'd go less for the stars, and definitely more for the people-watching and just meeting people and hanging out. I've had more fun at AB just chilling and hanging out with people and people-watching (omg, the cosplay is alternately terrifying and awe-inspiring) than running around trying to do things. :)

I have to admit that I am very disappointed in the Stargate line up. THere are some I'm looking forward to but...

However, I am looking forward to seeing everyone again and just hanging out with them, which was the best part from last year.

Line up-wise, it seems like last year was the year to go, or something.

I dunno. Personally, I liked the cons I've been to much more when I let it be free-form and not "omg, must get to [place] and stand in line to see [person/thing]" all the time. Really, I'm more interesting in the meeting people than anything actually offered by the con.
