Someone on my flist uses Calibre (freeware), which is what I'm using. I open lj/dw stories in style light, download as html only, and convert to MOBI, and then copy over when the Kindle's attached via USB.

Calibre's got some quirks I;m still figuring out, and I'm going to ask the aforementioned flister for advice, which I'll forward on, if you'd like.
