I'm abusing bullet points again!

This weekend:

  • 3eb concert on Friday! Okay, so I had some assholes trying to shove me and a friend through a steel grate, but after I decided to ditch the front, it was awesome. Extended solos for bass, guitar, and drums during "Jumper" were things of beauty. It felt like I was 14 again, but not in the stupid ways. "Semi-Charmed Life" was practically my song-to-live-by during early high school. Hey, 14. And yes, I was that disaffected.

  • World's Hardest Easy Geometry Problem. I'm still not quite sure what I was on when I solved it on Friday before the concert, because afterwards, I looked at my scribblings and couldn't make heads or tails of it. (I got the correct answer, because when we did a cheating method, that was the answer. I just don't know how I did it. Damn my tendency towards back-of-the-envelope calculations.) Also, I was a horrible person and posted that link on my zephyr class. Link and Yarmond were cursing my existence for that one.

  • I'm really sad that The Construction Site closed down its brick and motor store, because I never got to visit. Today was the last day of their sale in their warehouse. Most of the stuff was picked over, but I did manage to get a LEGO mecha kit. (When did LEGO start making mecha sets? Why did no one tell me?) Also, I should never underestimate my friends' ability to do absolutely bizarre things, because Link managed to make a deal for roughly half a car trunk of Pixel Blocks.

  • My collection of Stargate toys is growing at a rather alarming rate, considering I have approximately no money. A Weir and Teyla have joined the rest of them. The Stickfas dragon is gnawing on the ZPM. (Probably good I don't have a plastic!McKay.) And I just realized I think I might have all the major female characters (exception being the Wraith Queen). Huh. Of course, this is leading to two Very Important Questions:

1)What am I going to do with all of them?
2)After I get the Stargate figures, what do I get next, because I think I have A Problem.

Well. There are BSG figures....

[identity profile] ultranos-fic.livejournal.com 2008-04-27 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
So I keep seeing. This is going to get very expensive, very fast, isn't it?

*g* Yeah, sadly. If it helps, the only female character out so far has been Caprica Six.

[identity profile] ultranos-fic.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yay. Since it seems I have a severe lack of testosterone on my desk shelf. (Cam and Daniel, I think, are worried. Daniel, I think though, more because he's trying to reason with a giant robot driven by an emotionally-stunted clone. Silly Daniel. Luckily, Sam is reaching for the power cord.)

I honestly didn't mean to buy all the female characters! It just sort of happened. *tries to look innocent*

Tsk, tsk, don't you know that female action figures don't sell? (that's usually the reason, say, a Trinity figure didn't get made for the first Matrix movie. And no, I'm not lying, because I desperately wanted a Trinity because she was awesome)

Actually, I think the SG folks haven't heard that myth. Luckily.

The BSG folks, maybe, since their first set was: CapSix, Lee, Hot Dog, Sam Anders, Helo and Tyrol.

The second set is Kara, Kat and Helo, though--

And there's a Kendra, too.

I'm not sure having a Lee will help Cam and Daniel.

[identity profile] ultranos-fic.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
They...don't sell? o.O "Well, I guess that explains how I could waltz into a shop and buy them out in one shot..."

That's kind of horrible, though. Especially when I contrast it with Japanese figures/statuettes, where it seems like the only ones you can find are female ones. (Granted, about half of those I don't want to touch with a ten-foot pole due to blatant fanservice issues, but that's another problem entirely.)

I don't think a Lee will help Cam and Daniel either.

That's what they used to say, at least. And that's why, say, we get ten thousand Wolverine figures and only one Jean Grey. I'm not joking about their not being a Trinity figure from the first movie, though. There were girls from the second two movies, though.

Yeah, there's fanservice issues. They figure boys don't want to play with girls. And the anime/manga type are being bought for... collecting purposes.

It's not exactly Lee's fault, but...

[identity profile] ultranos-fic.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. Now that you said it, I kind of remember being disappointed as a kid that there weren't more girl figures. I didn't like dolls at all, but there really weren't action figures that catered to me. I guess this is why I got heavily into LEGOs. Kinda hard to tell if the small LEGO person is male or female, especially when you threw a helmet on them. :)

There are very few anime/manga/video game figures I would buy. Currently they fall under "Square-Enix related" or "Resident Evil/Biohazard" (I want a Jill Valentine badly.)

True, it's not exactly Lee's fault, but just...well, totally outclassed here. :)

yeah. I don't think it's still equal, but then--there's still less women in genre tv.

omg. I just had a thought of them making, like, NCIS action figures. AND NOW I WANT THEM.

sigh.

Dude. I'm not sure ANY male wouldn't be outclassed....

[identity profile] ultranos-fic.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I don't think it's equal either. And yes, we come back again to the problem of "not enough women in genre TV" (at least, of the genres I watch.)

I am unfamiliar with NCIS. Should I be ashamed?

To not be totally outclassed, they'd need a freaking army. And then, it's like "you need an army to take on little ol' me? Alright, let's rock."

Oh, wow, I'd never heard of The Construction Site. *drool*

[identity profile] ultranos-fic.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah! I really hope that they can keep up business online so we can get a new physical store. The Usual Suspects and I went to their clearance sale, and they were telling me how cool the place was as I was looking at broken-down shelving units in the warehouse. It was so sad.

[identity profile] baniszew.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish their online interface were better. Buying things from it seems actively difficult. But they have giant inflatable blocks!

[identity profile] ultranos-fic.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm, that's unfortunate. But giant inflatable blocks! Think of all the things you can do!

*understands having A Problem*
Which Weir did you get?

Also, OMG the construction site looks awesome! How did I not know about that? :(

[identity profile] ultranos-fic.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I got the normal Weir. I'm still looking for Repli black-ops Weir.

The Construction Site IS awesome. I'm really upset that I didn't know about it before I got dragged off to their yardsale yesterday. But they said they're going to continue online operations for a while and hopefully will be able to set up another physical store later. The Usual Suspects tell me that it was a really neat store, because they had all sorts of models and sets on display so you could play with all the weird toys.
