ultranos: black on white safety stick-man getting a companion cube to the head (ow)

In which I am slightly bitter

So, I caved and nominated some fandoms for Yuletide. I don't yet know if I'll participate in it, seeing as I'm starting to write a tenday and am contemplating NaNo. But I nominated

Kino no Tabi
Alan Campbell - Deepgate Codex trilogy
Persona 4
Haibane Renmei
Final Fantasy V
Final Fantasy Tactics

However, I am bitterly certain that the Yuletide admins will rule the last two ineligible because they include the words "Final Fantasy" in their title. Nevermind that FFT has 10 stories on AO3 and FFV has 2. Nevermind that on FF.net, FFI-VI don't even have their own categories and are lumped together. I guess I should just resign myself to the fact that I'll never get the fic I want from those games, just like I did years ago before I heard of Yuletide. (I will never get the "Meliadoul's crisis of faith" fic, will I? Because it's a Nice Thing and I Know The Rules About Nice Things.)

Yes, I am that bitter.

Speaking of NaNo, I've somewhat settled on Wintermarch, but I'm probably just going to use the time to poke at the world and character building aspects due to lack of unallocated free time (see also: writing a tenday). I was just doing some random sketches and somehow ended up drawing plot points, so...yeah, I think I know what my subconscious wants to do. I guess I can create a filter for Wintermarch ramblings, or I'll probably just cut-tag it. *shrug*

I'm not doing Yuletide this year, but from what I read I got the impression they were going to be allowing those smaller unpopular subsets of big fandoms in this year. (so like, no Batman, but if there's a specific line of Batman comics...)

So maybe you can be less bitter!

Oh, god, Nano. Now that I have story idea in my head I have to really remind myself I am SWAMPED until....May. (I still want you to do something with that story you wrote for class last year)

Yay Yuletide! It's a ridiculously bad time of year for me to commit to writing anything... but I love the idea of it. :-)

given i'm playing through FFT: War of the Lions on the PSP, there is some chance that i'll write that fic for you if you'd like. it saves me from some horrible prompt i'm likely to get via yuletide.

Hah. Point! (How are you liking the new translation?)

I like the idea of Yuletide too! I'm just, well, grumpy that it seems like the fandoms I want are in the giant black-hole of fic writing: too obscure, but lumped in with the juggernauts of fandoms simply because their younger siblings are fandom's darlings. *eyeroll*

Absolutely loving it. I've never played the original, but I've watched Jim play it. I do need to go back to gamestop and exchange my psp because the wireless on it isn't working and I really want to play the team missions.

Well, no promises, but apparently, the determination of rarity will be based on an automatic count of the # of fics on AO3 with the option for mods to add/delete things from the list manually if they want. (Before, it was all a hideous manual process, so the franchise rule was basically to save the mods from a level of work they just couldn't have finished in time.) It's at least worth it to try nominating things like that this year.

[identity profile] ultranos-fic.livejournal.com 2010-10-19 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Good to know. And yeah, I sympathize with the mods for not having the time/energy to go through that all manually. I mean, if I wasn't very aware of the franchise, I wouldn't know how to categorize it. It's very much easier to just make a general rule. So yeah, I totally understand why they did it that way. I'm just being disgruntled.
