Linkspam is not writing papers
In honor of me getting my thesis submitted, here's a linkspam. (I can't go out and get drunk, because I still have 1.5 papers to write.)
Music
I work better with music, depending on what I'm doing. Generally, I prefer something with a beat and quick tempo. I spent a lot of time last spring in the EE lab programming circuits to Muse's Absolution album, and pretty much all of the Decemberists the previous semester during 2.006 (except right before the tests, in which case it was A Silver Mt. Zion's "God Bless Our Dead Marines" and "Mountains Made of Steam". IDK).
Anyway, while writing my thesis, I found myself listening pretty much exclusively to the Jrock band Asian Kung-Fu Generation. Their music is great, and it was ideal for my purposes because I can't understand it so I'm not tempted to start paying attention to the lyrics and not work. :) They've been my favorite Jrock band since roughly freshman year.
They also have some extremely...interesting music videos. "Interesting" as in crack. Here's a sampling of some of their songs.

I've also started listening to The Protomen, who do a rock opera...loosely based on the first three Megaman games. I'm not even kidding. I saw them in concert at PAX East and I only wish I was more familiar with their work then. It was seriously awesome.

Fake Science For when the facts are too confusing. I can't help but snicker at the oil one or the spiders one.
The Psychology of Video Games. Exactly what it says on the tin. Jamie Madigan uses the science of psychology to understand gaming and the industry. If you like transhumanism, philosophy, and physics, you should be reading Dresden Codak. Not to be confused with Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files. If nothing else, you need to see the "Dungeons and Discourse" comics.
